Camp Rubicon!!

On Monday 18th August, 24 students set off for an adventure at Rubicon Camp. During our trip to Rubicon, we picked up a group of 25 from Karingal Secondary who we're also sharing the experience of the camp. We arrived at camp Rubicon after a long and exciting journey. We were given our cabins and partners for the duration of the camp, we then came back out into The Hall where we all gathered and introduced ourselves briefly. We were given free time to meet and socialise with the students from Karingal, instantly we could see we had a lot in common and got along great.

We then moved of into our group activities, were we met our group leaders and a further introduction of the members of our group. Through out the 5 days we participated in some fantastic activities such as rockclimbing, skiing, high ropes corse, white water rafting, orienteering, bouldering, bike riding & free time activities. On the 2nd last day we got to pick a activity that we enjoyed the most out of all them.

Through out the camp we had a fantastic time and met some awesome as friends that we still have today. The camp staff were amazing and fun and hope we will get the opportunity to go on the camp again.

Volleyball Superstars!!

Throughout the year, many students have participated in sporting activities. Volleyball was a major one for eight students. These students were Ashleigh, Tyler, Miranda, Ebony, Hayley, Lauren, Jessica and Emily. At the first level we played four schools. They were Rosebud, Mornington, Mt Eliza and Dromana. Throughout the day Rosebud was our greatest challenge, but we persisted and in the end we were successful, winning by a set. As we had defeated all four schools we were able to go to the Zone level.

At the zone level we only played one team, which was Carrum Downs. They put up and effort, but we managed to defeat them easily. We went into the Southern Zone level with excitement. On the day we played three schools from around Melboure. All three schools had amazing skills and great determination. With our persistence and going on the court with a great amount of excitement, we had a great win and alot of fun. Even though we didn't win the day we still felt like winners and even managed to get a cheer squad from the other boy teams. We are all pumped and ready for next year.

Hear Ye, Hear Ye, Medieval Castles Have We!

Starting fresh on the 6th October, the class of 8B submerged themselves into the wonders of the Middle Ages. Beginning with the vikings, we learnt all about the Battle Of Hastings and Viking raids. The grade presented a variety of presentations on some of the most famous (or infamous) Danes, including Erik The Red and Leif Eriksson.

After the Norsemen, we were set to learn about the more famous part of Medieval times, involving fair maidens, knights and dragons. The class designed various castles, some of which I have put on display for you. We talked and watched videos on the structure of the average castle, discovering ways of which they created such architecture. We rediscovered how peasants dragged up massive stone slabs, and the function of basic pulleys and the first cranes.

By the end of our journey, we hope to have knowledge on the Viking era, Feudilism, Rights and Rituals of the Medieval people, and, of course, their mythology.

The trip to Hawthorn

On Wednesday we left the college at 9.10, drove for 1 and a half hours to visit an Indonesian restaurant in Hawthorn. The day started by a little bit of shopping for an hour, which was very enjoyable. There was Maccas, Subway, The Station Gifts, Aussie Disposals, Jellis Craig, Asian Mart, Safeway, Smiggle and a chocolate shop that was quite expensive. At about 11.30 we went into a restaurant called Nelayan. The meals were very cheap and very nice. It was very spicy and the rice was extremely tasty.

HPV is hot, hot, hot!!

At the beggining of the year the HPV crew entered in Wonthaggi. They did a fantastic job, but the important race is coming up in late November. Meribourgh is one of the main races of the year. For most of the year, the crew have been training intensly every Monday from 3:30-5:00. We start of with a few laps around the gym then a deep stretching session. After we have done that, we go upstairs and ride the bikes for about 20 minutes. When that's been completed, we do a circuit of different things which include things like, weights, skipping, push-ups, sit-ups, squats, tredmil & much more. This coming Monday are the tryouts for which team we will be in, but I'm sure everyone will do great :). Good luck to HPV in the coming races!

Spicegirls back in Australia!

On the 10th of October Western Port had a Talent and Trivia night, organised by the Parents and Friends group. The night kicked off at 7:30 with the first round of trivia of the 8 in total, Miss Blanch did a great job of hosting the trivia. There were several great acts which consisted of singing, dancing, comedy and bands! Lauren (Posh Spice), Tyler (Scary Spice), Miranda (Ginger Spice), Teagan (Baby Spice) and Amber (Sporty Spice) showed off their Spice World skills preforming to one of their biggest hits Wannabe! We started off nervously, but by the end we were all right into it!

While the judges made their decisions, the door prizes were drawn. The trivia night winners were one of the teacher tables called "Better than the Senior Team!" The solo talent winner of the night was Yawen because her singing act blew the crowd away. As the group winners were read out, Spiceworld's dreams were shattered! Taiko band won the night and "Grants Pornstars" were also not impressed! Ginger, Baby and Sporty all went and complained as this was not at all the way it was supposed to turn out!

Despite the poor judgment towards Spicegirls, it was a great night had by all and raised almost $1,700 making the night a huge success!

Footy Day

On Friday the 12th of September Western Port held a football day. Students were allowed to dress up in their footy Guernseys for only a gold coin donation. 8B once again got into the spirit with half the class showing off their colours. Others came in free dress and some decided not to participate. There was a special footy lunch available at the canteen. A hot dog with a 600ml drink for a cheap cheap price of only $4.00!!!. There were activities that were setup in the gym that everyone enjoyed. Overall, it was a fun Friday!!!
